EU's Ashton says more nuclear talks with Iran on April 7-9

World powers and Iran have agreed to hold a new round of nuclear talks in Vienna on April 7-9 after two days of "substantive" discussions in Vienna on Tehran's contested work, European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said on Wednesday.

Ashton said the seven nations - the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain, Germany and Iran - held talks between March 18 and 19, also in the Austrian capital, on Iran's uranium enrichment program, the country's Arak heavy water reactor and Western sanctions against Iran. She gave no details.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif said he was optimistic that Tehran and six world powers can reach a broad settlement in their nuclear dispute by a July 20 deadline.

Speaking on the second day of talks with the six nations in Vienna, he said negotiations were going "well", so far.

Asked whether he expected negotiators to meet their deadline, he told Reuters: "yes, I do ... I am optimistic about July 20".
