White House says govt. shutdown layoffs 'imminent'

The White House said Wednesday that layoffs of federal workers were "imminent" during a government shutdown sparked by a bitter funding stand-off between President Donald Trump and Democrats in Congress.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the White House was "working with agencies across the board to identify where cuts can be made...and we believe that layoffs are imminent."
