EU grants Lebanon €25 million to address food insecurity
On Tuesday, the European Union launched two new initiatives worth 25 million euros in support of vulnerable communities in Lebanon and to fight food insecurity. These initiatives respond to the adverse effects of Russia's war against Ukraine on the EU's neighboring countries.

These funds will provide immediate assistance for 7,245 impoverished Lebanese families (41,287 individuals) enrolled in the National Poverty Targeting Program (NPTP), Lebanon's social safety net implemented by the Government with the UN World Food Program.

In the medium and longer term, the European Union also wants to help strengthen the Lebanese agricultural and agri-food systems, increase the productive capacity of Lebanese farmers, and support a less demanding and more climate-friendly agriculture, to help Lebanon diversify its food production and have less dependency on crops and cereals imports.

This project will be implemented with the Food and Agriculture Organization and World Food Program.

"The European Union stands by the side of the Lebanese people in these challenging times," the Ambassador of the European Union to Lebanon, Ralph Tarraf, declared.
