Kataeb party stresses need to prevent situation in Tripoli from reaching point of no return

The Kataeb Party warned Monday against further escalation in the city of Tripoli, in order to prevent the current situation from reaching a point of no return.

Accordingly, the party called on the security apparatuses to be firm in implementing the security plan that aims at preventing the city from falling in the hands of the gunmen.

In a statement issued following the weekly meeting of the Kataeb’s political bureau under the chairmanship of Amin Gemayel, the party said that “the revenge policy would not have been adopted should the state have implemented its authority.”

“We object the rhetoric adopted by Jabal Mohsen’s gunmen who threatened to impose siege on the city and its residents,” the party said, stressing that the security apparatuses must unite under the command of the Lebanese Armed Forces, which is the only institution capable of accomplishing the mission upon a political decision.

On another note, the Kataeb party said that, upon the continuous increase in the number of Syrian refugees that almost reached 1.5 million, and after the crisis has reached a threshold in many fields, the state must call on the International Community and the Arab states to provide assistance in resolving the issue.

“We must call on the United National Security Council to issue a decision allowing the establishment of refugee camps inside the Syrian territories or on the Lebanese-Syrian borders,” the statement added.
