A number of citizens cut-off on Thursday Tripoli’s Kanais Street with burning tires to protest the arrest of a citizen from the Mikati family. The said citizen was arrested during raid operations carried out by Lebanese Armed Forces soldiers. This as Internal Security Forces Information Bureau arrested Hussein Dib Ahmad in Tripoli’s Jabal Mohsen neighborhood.
On Wednesday evening, LAF soldiers conducted raids in Tripoli; a matter that led to clashes between soldiers and a number of armed men.
As LAF units were raiding various neighborhoods in Tripoli, heavy gunfire was heard in the city’s streets, and a vehicle along with a residence located near the Harba Mosque were set ablaze.
The cabinet tasked the army and security forces with controlling the security situation in Lebanon's northern city of Tripoli and the eastern Bekaa Valley in areas bordering Syria.
In this context, army units conducted motorized patrols, established checkpoints, raided wanted persons and arrested a number of fugitives who were then handed over to the concerned authorities.
LAF soldiers also deployed heavily in Tripoli as part of the security plan put forth, seemingly since disputes from neighboring Syria's civil war frequently inflame sectarian grievances in the northern Lebanese city.
