Conference held in Italy's Rome to back Lebanese army
A conference aimed to support the Lebanese army kicked off on Thursday in Rome in preparation for the meeting of the International Support Group for Lebanon to be held in June.

Lebanese Armed Forces' Chief of Staff Major General Walid Salman explained, during the conference, the challenges facing the army in terms of addressing terrorism "which has become a global threat" and maintaining stability in south Lebanon under the UN Resolution 1701.

He also said the LAF now face other challenges while upholding civil peace and safeguarding Lebanon's unity in light of the Syrian war and the displacement of one and a half million refugees.

In turn, the Secretary General of the Italian Foreign Ministry Michele Valensise said the army is key to Lebanon's stability "which does not only serve the Lebanese people, but the entire region alongside 'friend countries' including Italy".
