Security meeting held at Grand Serail
An emergency security meeting Prime Minister Tammam Salam had called for, was held on Friday at the Grand Serail.

Salam was briefed over the latest investigations in today’s explosion, as well as the efforts deployed by the security apparatuses to face the terrorist plots.

He also called on all security apparatuses leaders and ministers to be highly alerted, adding that Daher al-Baydar’s explosion aims at shaking Lebanon’s security.

In turn, Minister of Interior Nohad Mashnouq said that the suicide bomber is Syrian, adding that investigations will lead to serious outcome.

Mashnouq also added that the ministry did not have information that AMAL Movement's ceremony was going to be targeted, stressing that he called Speaker Nabih Berri as a “precaution.”

For his part, Lebanese Armed Forces Commander General Jean Kahwaji said ahead of the meeting that the situation in Lebanon is "not that dangerous," noting that there is an "exaggeration" in reporting security incidents.

Meanwhile, the Director General of General Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, said all incidents that took place today are interlinked, adding that events scheduled for today were called off due to security concerns.

A suicide bomber blew himself up at a security checkpoint in Lebanon's Daher al-Baydar in the Eastern Bekaa Valley on Friday, leaving 1 person killed, an ISF member, and up to 32 wounded, the health ministry said.

This comes as the Internal Security Forces received information on the presence of terrorist networks infiltrating the country namely for the possible assassination of Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim who narrowly escaped the attack.
