Lebanese President says he would pursue 'any path' to halt ongoing Israeli attacks

President Joseph Aoun said Lebanon has, for the first time, returned to the U.S. agenda, a development he described as opening the door to economic recovery and reconstruction.

Speaking at the start of a Cabinet session, Aoun briefed ministers on ongoing contacts aimed at extending the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.

He stressed that he would pursue "any path" to halt the ongoing Israeli attacks, while making clear he has no intention of direct contact with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Aoun said efforts would focus on addressing ceasefire violations and stopping the destruction of homes, as well as attacks on civilians, places of worship, journalists, and medical and educational personnel. He added that these issues would be raised during a meeting scheduled later in the day in Washington.

Separately, Information Minister Paul Morcos said Aoun also presented proposals to increase transportation allowances for public sector employees and provide them with additional financial assistance.
