Pope Leo reaffirms support for Lebanon in message to President Aoun

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun received a message from Pope Leo XIV in which the pontiff renewed his affection for Lebanon and its people from all religious communities, reaffirming his continued concern for the country and his prayers for its citizens.

In his message, Pope Leo XIV said, “Let us continue to devote all our energies to serving peace and the common good,” while invoking divine blessings upon Lebanon and its people.

The pope’s remarks came in a reply to a letter previously sent by President Aoun marking one year since the beginning of Leo XIV’s papacy following his election by the College of Cardinals as successor to Pope Francis.

In his original message, Aoun stressed that Lebanon is currently facing exceptionally dangerous circumstances, citing tensions and conflicts affecting the region and their profound impact on the country’s internal stability.

The Lebanese president also praised the Vatican’s steadfast support for Lebanon, saying the Holy See’s repeated calls to end violence, respect human rights, and protect vulnerable groups reflected a solidarity deeply appreciated by the Lebanese people.
