MP Sagih Atieh says Qlayaat Airport will benefit all of Lebanon

MP Sagih Atieh said the planned operation of René Mouawad Airport in Qlayaat would have positive repercussions for Lebanon as a whole, not only for Akkar, particularly from an economic and developmental perspective.

Speaking to LBCI, Atieh explained that the airport is expected to serve both military and civilian purposes and handle cargo operations.

He stressed that maintaining the state's authority is essential to prevent attempts by residents or groups to block roads leading to the airport, regardless of the reasons for such actions.

Atieh said the airport has the capacity to accommodate up to 40 aircraft per day, noting that efforts are underway to upgrade and improve its equipment and facilities.

He also revealed that maintenance work on the pipeline extending from the Syrian border to Beddaoui has been awarded, paving the way for the transport of Iraqi oil.

According to Atieh, the project could help reduce energy costs and support Lebanon’s energy sector.
