Macron meets Sisi in Alexandria, discusses Gaza ceasefire, Lebanon and regional tensions

French President Emmanuel Macron met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Alexandria on Saturday on the sidelines of the inauguration of a new campus of the Senghor Francophone University, at the start of Macron’s tour in Africa.

According to a statement from the Egyptian presidency spokesperson, the two presidents discussed developments in regional issues.

They addressed efforts to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the continued entry of humanitarian aid, as well as the situation in Lebanon.

The spokesperson noted Egypt’s efforts to contain current tensions, while Cairo reaffirmed its firm rejection of any infringement on the sovereignty of Arab states.

The statement added that Macron praised the progress in French-Egyptian relations and expressed France’s keenness to further develop cooperation across various fields. He also commended the volume of trade exchange and French investments in Egypt.
