REPORT: President Sleiman says seeking to bolster the army’s capabilities

President Michel Sleiman stressed on Wednesday that he is seeking to bolster the capabilities of the Lebanese Armed Forces by providing them with new sophisticated weapons.

“The army will receive any kind of weapons it needs but we have a limited quantity of money,” Sleiman said during a press conference with his Finnish counterpart.

President Sleiman also called for a defense strategy in a bid to benefit from the Resistance and to spare it political divisions.

“The army has the full political cover without any reservations,” Sleiman said.

He added that the Presidential entitlement requires a democratic commitment by all concerned authorities, and said: “No political party has the right to boycott the elections”.

This comes as President Michel Sleiman arrived in Tyre accompanied by his Finnish counterpart Sauli Niinisto to inspect the Finish UNIFIL contingent, the state-run National News Agency reported on Wednesday.
