In a bankrupt nation like Lebanon that is eager to raise money, reviving its faltering treasury is possible in more than one field, including regulating the drilling, and crushing sectors.
 
There are 1,235 quarries in Lebanon spread across an area of 15 million square meters that can contribute $2,394 billion in dues or direct financial compensation from 2007 to 2021.
 
A study by the Ministry of Environment and the United Nations Development Program, based on a field investigation by the Lebanese Army, led to this database.
 
A committee led by the minister of justice and that includes ministers of the interior, finance, and environment, as well as the Army, meets regularly to discuss how to put this plan into practice.
 
How will this money be gathered for the treasury's benefit?
 
Caretaker Environment Minister Nasser Yassin told LBCI that the ministry of finance is looking into how dues are determined and collected, provided that it establishes yearly collection schedules.
 
However, discussions with the Ministry of Justice center on resolving the grievances of the people impacted by this industry and determining the amount of compensation to be awarded.
 
Yassin claimed that all quarries' real estate and the identities of their owners were now known, pointing out to the political favoritism that was actively taking place in this industry. 
 
He claimed that the Ministry of Interior is responsible for instructing governors and municipalities on how to implement their decisions and provide security support for them.
 
The battle to regulate the violations of the quarries sector is long and needs the insistence of those concerned to proceed with it, much like the battle that the state has fought and continues to fight against violations of marine property.
