REPORT: Bassil to LBCI:Lebanon not bound by sanctions on diesel oil exportation to Syria

Despite the fact that the cabinet assured that it was not concerned by the exportation of green diesel oil to Syria and that this hydrocarbon was not subsidized, exclusive governmental sources told LBCI that a private company is exclusively importing green diesel oil and later exporting it to Syria.

In this regard, Energy Minister Gebran Bassil stressed that Lebanon is not concerned by the sanctions that are being talked about lately, especially that they were not issued by the U.N. Security Council. “Lebanon is not concerned or bound by sanctions issued by countries,” he said adding that Lebanon has the right to sell red diesel oil, in virtue of the law.

On another note, road cut-offs to prevent the entry of diesel oil to Syria did not hinder the ongoing transportation process. In fact, on Thursday morning, diesel oil tanks entered Syria via the Dahr al-Baydar – Chtoura – Bar Elias – Majdal Anjar road. In the details, 14 tanks carrying 35 tons of green diesel oil each entered Syria.
