A second vote in Thailand's Parliament to select a Prime Minister on 19 July

The Thai parliament will convene a new session on July 19th to select a prime minister for the country after progressive candidate Pita Limjaroenrat lost in Thursday's vote, according to the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, as reported by Agence France-Presse on Friday.

Pichet Chuamuangvan stated to AFP that "the timetable remains the same," confirming information published by local newspapers regarding the second voting session.

Progressive candidate Pita Limjaroenrat, who emerged as the winner in the legislative elections, lost the parliamentary vote on Thursday to become the prime minister after members of the pro-military Senate rejected his nomination.

Thailand, the second-largest economic power in Southeast Asia, mired in a whirlpool of political crises, is experiencing a state of instability following two months of elections that dealt a bitter blow to the generals who have been in power since the 2014 coup.
