Pope Francis calls for peace in Niger

Pope Francis urged on Sunday for a diplomatic solution to the political crisis unfolding in Niger, which resulted from a coup endangering the stability of the entire region.

The Pope said during the prayer in front of the audience in St. Peter's Square, "I am closely following what is happening in Niger and I join the bishops in their call for peace and stability in this country and in the Sahel region."
