Putin hails late Vietnam leader as 'true friend' of Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin hailed Nguyen Phu Trong, the Vietnamese leader who died on Friday, as a "remarkable man" and "true friend" of Russia.

"In Russia, he will always be remembered as a true friend of our country who made a great personal contribution" to ties between Moscow and Hanoi, Putin said in a Telegram sent to Vietnam's President To Lam, posted on the Kremlin website.
