French minister laments 'missed opportunities' at UN nature summit

France's Environment Minister Monique Barbut said on Saturday the decisions taken at the U.N. biodiversity summit were "not commensurate with the stakes" facing nature.

"The progress we failed to achieve here is a series of missed opportunities to speed up our response to the loss of biodiversity," Barbut said in a lengthy statement to AFP, stressing that "nature will not wait for the pace of our negotiations".
