President Aoun, PM Salam discuss post-ceasefire phase, negotiations and return of displaced residents

Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun received Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Saturday morning at Baabda Palace, where the two held broad talks on recent security and diplomatic developments.

The two leaders also assessed the post-ceasefire phase and ongoing efforts to uphold it, including contacts carried out by the president with U.S. President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and a number of Arab and foreign leaders.

Following the meeting, Salam said discussions also covered Lebanon’s readiness for upcoming negotiations, as well as the implementation of Cabinet decisions—particularly the latest decision aimed at strengthening state authority in Beirut and restricting weapons to state control.

Salam expressed hope that displaced residents would be able to return safely to their homes as soon as the ceasefire holds, stressing that the Lebanese state will support their return by facilitating key measures, including repairing damaged bridges, reopening roads, and ensuring basic needs in areas deemed safe for return.
