Trump: No breakthrough in Iran talks as Tehran holds firm on nuclear program

In a post on Truth Social, U.S. President Donald Trump said that Iran remains unwilling to abandon its nuclear ambitions following lengthy talks held in Islamabad.

Trump said the discussions, which he described as lasting “close to 20 hours,” failed to produce a breakthrough on what he called the “single most important issue.”

“There is only one thing that matters — IRAN IS UNWILLING TO GIVE UP ITS NUCLEAR AMBITIONS!” Trump wrote.

He added that while some points were agreed upon during the talks, they were insufficient given the risk of Iran acquiring nuclear capabilities.

“All of those points don’t matter compared to allowing Nuclear Power to be in the hands of such volatile, difficult, unpredictable people,” he said.

Trump also reiterated his long-standing position on Tehran’s nuclear program: “As I have always said… IRAN WILL NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!”

The U.S. president said he had been fully briefed on the talks by Vice President J.D. Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner.

He noted that the American delegation held extensive discussions with Iranian representatives, including Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, Abbas Araghchi, and Ali Bagheri, but described them as “unyielding” on the nuclear issue.

Trump also addressed tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, warning of global consequences if navigation is disrupted.

“They better begin the process of getting this INTERNATIONAL WATERWAY OPEN AND FAST!” he wrote, adding that any obstruction would violate international law and harm global economic stability.

He further praised Pakistan’s leadership, including Asim Munir and Shehbaz Sharif, describing them as “extraordinary men” and commending their role in hosting the talks.
