REPORT: LAF deploy in Tripoli amid grenade attacks and road closures
The state-run national news Agency reported on Tuesday that the implementation of the security plan by the Lebanese army in the northern city of Tripoli was faced  by attacks and protests by those who do not wish for peace.

The Lebanese army carried out raids to arrest fugitives in Tripoli's area of al-Baraniyeh.

The agency also added that several grenades were tossed in the area as residents blocked the road of al-Dabagha with burning tires.

This as several men from Tripoli's Bab al-Tabbaneh blocked the road near al-Naseri mosque in protest of the raids carried out by army in the area.
Meanwhile, President Michel Sleiman followed up on the implementation of the security plan in Tripoli with the concerned authorities.

He stressed the importance of arresting fugitives and referring them to the concerned judicial authorities.

On another note, the army seized two cars that belong to Sheikh Dai al-Islam al-Shahhal's convoy.

Later on Tuesday, al-Shahhal held a press conference in which he said that Lebanon "is being held hostage," adding that some sides want the Lebanese Armed Forces to mimic the Syrian army.

Al-Shahhal reiterated that there is a conspiracy against the Sunni sect in Lebanon, noting that they want it adhere to the notions of Iran's ambitions in the region.

Last week, the army deployed in Tripoli in a bid to end violence between the Alawite neighborhood of Jabal Mohsen and the nearby Sunni district of Bab al-Tebbaneh.

The port city of Tripoli has long been a stronghold of Sunni Islamists in northern Lebanon.

But the city has become increasingly volatile in recent months due to the civil war in neighboring Syria, where the Sunni majority is leading a revolt against President Bashar al-Assad.

Disputes from neighboring Syria's civil war frequently inflame sectarian grievances in Tripoli.

These clashes pit gunmen from both the mostly Sunni Bab Tabbaneh district and the Jabal Mohsen district which mostly comprises residents of Syrian President Bashar Assad's Alawite sect, a Shiite Islam offshoot.
