Lebanese Presidential Crisis: Meetings and Mediation Amid Unchanged Stances

The efforts to solve the presidential crisis can be summarized with several meetings taking place, but the results are still pending.

Among these meetings are those conducted by a Qatari delegation with several blocs. 

Many opinions have been heard, but the most prominent ones come from Hezbollah and the Amal Movement. Both parties have confirmed their support for the nomination of Sleiman Frangieh. 

The Qatari envoy brought with him three names: the name of the Acting Director-General of General Security, Brigadier General Elias al-Baysari, MP Neamat Frem, and the name of the Army Commander, who is said to have the highest support among the majority of members of the Quintet Alliance. 

These names were discussed in the meeting with Hezbollah, which has kept its position unchanged. Still, the Qatari envoy realized that it would be difficult for the Army Commander to ascend, given the lack of support from influential parliamentary forces.

Meanwhile, the Saudi stance remained consistent from New York to Beirut: the presidential solution should be internal.

The French initiative dwindled, and the Qatari mediation was launched. At the same time, the Lebanese stances remained unchanged, especially since the demands of the Quintet Committee are not solely linked to the president's name but to their action plan, ensuring sustainable solutions to the Lebanese crisis.
