Lebanese authorities begin relocating displaced people from Beirut waterfront

Efforts led by Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, in coordination with the Beirut Municipality, the Ministry of Social Affairs, and the Interior Ministry, have resulted in a decision to relocate displaced people currently staying along Beirut’s waterfront — particularly those on privately owned land — to municipal land located a few kilometers away.

Sources told LBCI that Internal Security Forces, in cooperation with the Al-Resala Scout Association and other organizations, began dismantling tents erected on private property without resistance from the displaced residents.

The report added that Beirut Municipality has secured around 200 new tents that are larger and better suited for living conditions, which will be installed at the new site.

Over the next 10 days, the new location will be equipped with tents, toilets, and basic necessities, including food, water, and clothing for the displaced families.

According to the sources, the site will be designated exclusively for Lebanese displaced people who were already staying at the BIEL area, with no additional displaced persons from other regions to be transferred there.

As for the Syrian nationals who had been staying at the site, coordination will take place with General Security either to facilitate their return to Syria and regularize their status, or to relocate them to other shelter centers.

Meanwhile, displaced people currently staying in Ramlet al-Baida, Raouche, and other parts of Beirut are expected to be moved to the Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium.
