Syrian opposition declares 'liberation of Damascus and fall of Assad' in statement on state television

The Syrian opposition announced on Sunday in a statement aired on state television that it had liberated Damascus and overthrown President Bashar al-Assad, whose rule lasted for 24 years.

The statement read, "By the grace of God, Damascus has been liberated, and the tyrant Bashar al-Assad has been overthrown."

It also added that all detainees had been released.
