REPORT: Sehnaoui says Lebanese-Syrian borders must be closed

Former minister Nicolas Sehanoui said on Sunday that the losses that Lebanon will sustain on the economic level due to the Syrian exodus will be catastrophic, according to a study conducted by the World Bank, noting that the time has come to close the borders with Syria, since Lebanon can no longer receive any more refugees.

During a press conference pertaining to the repercussions of the influx of Syrian refugees in the Beirut region of Ashrafieh, Sehnaoui pointed out that the United Nations indicated that the number of the Syrian refugees in Lebanon has exceeded the one million, while their number in Turkey is 600 thousand.

“Despite the fact that the Syrian crisis is causing a dangerous humanitarian crisis, the situation has escalated and became an existential issue that affects Lebanon’s safety,” he added.
