REPORT: Minister Zeaiter says Sunday’s disaster to recur if radical solution fails

Public Works Minister Ghazi Zeaiter told LBCI that the environmental disaster witnessed by the Lebanese people on Sunday due to the rain will recur and will cause more damage, should a radical solution fail to be reached in terms of the waste management crisis.

He added that he met with representatives from the companies tasked with clearing the water canals and tasked them with removing the accumulated garbage from all waterways. “But the issue remains as to where this garbage will be dumped,” he explained.

On Sunday morning, piles of uncollected trash washed up along the streets of Beirut after heavy rains caused flooding.
