Venezuela quakes death toll rises to 188: Top lawmaker

The death toll from two powerful earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to at least 188, with more than 1,520 others injured, top lawmaker Jorge Rodriguez said Thursday.

Twin quakes, which the U.S. Geological Survey measured at magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, hit northern Venezuela within a minute of each other on Wednesday night, sending buildings collapsing and trapping many in the rubble.
