Pope Leo starts open-air mass before hundreds of thousands in Paris

Pope Leo on Saturday began a giant open-air mass in Paris, leading hundreds of thousands in prayer at Place de la Concorde and along the adjoining Champs-Elysees.

The service began after the pontiff travelled down the French capital's iconic avenue in his popemobile, cheered by the faithful lining the route. Some 700,000 people were in attendance, the Vatican said.
