PM Salam meets European officials, stresses backing for ceasefire and negotiations

Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam held a series of meetings in Luxembourg ahead of his address to the European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council, discussing developments in Lebanon, particularly the ceasefire, the start of direct negotiations, and urgent humanitarian needs.

Salam met with EU Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica, Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, Spain’s Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares, Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, and European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib.

During the meetings, Salam stressed “the importance of the European Union and its member states continuing to support Lebanon, politically and humanitarianly, during this critical phase,” saying such backing would strengthen the country’s resilience, support efforts to consolidate the ceasefire, and help launch a serious negotiation process, in addition to addressing growing humanitarian needs.
