German government urges Iran to seize opportunity and continue peace talks with US

The German government on Thursday urged Iran to seize the opportunity and resume peace talks with the United States, stressing the need to keep the Strait of Hormuz permanently open.

According to a statement reported by Reuters, Iran demonstrated its control over the strategic waterway in a video showing its special forces boarding a large cargo ship, following the collapse of peace talks that Washington had hoped would help secure the world’s most important shipping route.

“The federal government welcomes the extension of the ceasefire between the United States and Iran. This represents an important opportunity to resume diplomatic negotiations in Islamabad aimed at achieving peace and preventing further escalation of the war. Tehran should seize this opportunity,” the statement said.
