Patriarch Al-Rahi from Baabda: April 17 speech “pivotal,” urges support for Army and says President represents all Lebanese

Maronite Patriarch Bechara Boutros al-Rahi said from Baabda that the April 17 speech was a “pivotal address” that restores dignity, adding that it is consistent with the presidential oath speech. He stressed that humanitarian corridors for residents remaining in southern villages are both a right and an international obligation.

On military matters, al-Rahi praised the leadership of the Lebanese army, saying its commander is acting with wisdom, prudence, and steadfastness, and called for broad support for the institution.

On political positions, he said the president speaks on behalf of all Lebanese, not as a sectarian representative, stressing that no Lebanese rights should be compromised in negotiations. He added that Lebanon seeks peace and is engaging in negotiations with awareness and deliberation.
