President Aoun reviews Washington talks preparations, urges UK to pressure Israel over ceasefire violations

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Friday reviewed preparations for next Thursday’s meeting in Washington between Lebanese, U.S., and Israeli delegations during talks at Baabda Palace with former ambassador Simon Karam, who heads the Lebanese delegation to the direct Lebanese-Israeli negotiations.

According to the presidency, Aoun provided Karam with directives outlining Lebanon’s core positions regarding the negotiations ahead of his departure to the U.S. capital.

Separately, Aoun received a phone call from British National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell, during which they discussed developments in Lebanon and the region amid continued Israeli attacks on Lebanon.

During the call, the Lebanese president urged Britain to pressure Israel to adhere to the ceasefire and halt demolition and bulldozing operations in occupied southern Lebanese towns and villages.
