Netanyahu keeps sensitive Iran-related briefing under wraps during cabinet meeting amid legal row

Report by Amal Shehadeh, English adaptation by Mariella Succar

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu withheld what was described as sensitive Iran-related information during a restricted cabinet meeting, underscoring the heightened security concerns during the current phase of Israel’s military campaign.

The material was discussed only within a small security forum. Israeli media reported that Netanyahu later invoked the issue in an effort to persuade a court to cancel a scheduled corruption hearing on Monday, citing security considerations.

Several ministers, including Avi Dichter, said the Iran file remains highly complex and carries significant risks.

On the Lebanon front, tensions remain high. Defense Minister Israel Katz said military threats continue and that Israel is preparing to complete the demolition of remaining structures near the border in southern Lebanon.

His remarks sparked political debate in Israel, particularly amid reports questioning the effectiveness of the security buffer zone Israel is seeking to enforce in southern Lebanon.

Military officials also presented recommendations calling for a broader approach to operations against Hezbollah, suggesting targets should extend beyond its military wing to its political, social and economic networks.

They also urged consideration of strikes on Lebanese state infrastructure, arguing that the current situation poses risks not only to troops on the ground but also to Israeli civilian security.
